“Iron sharpens iron, so one man (or woman)

sharpens another”

(Proverbs 27:17)

We feel that time spent with fellow believers is necessary to grow in the things of God. Without “quality” time solid relationships just don’t happen. Emmanuel offers a number

of opportunities to experience “Body Life” other than on Sundays.

Monday – 6:00-7:30 A.M.

Men’s Prayer time – main auditorium

This is open to anyone of the male gender. A number of our men begin each work week together in prayer. It is a come and stay, or come and go. We begin at 6:00 A.M., but if your situation requires early morning home responsibilities, drop by at 7:00 or 7:15. If you can come early, but can’t stay, show up for the start and leave whenever. Just the few minutes spent with men in prayer would be profitable (in all directions).

We pray for anything and everything. The guys that are able to come are never disappointed. See you on Monday morning!!

Tuesday – 10:00 A.M.

Ladies Study led by Betty McPhail –

Betty is presently taking a small group of young mothers (although you don’t have to be a mother) through the Book of Romans. Oh, the discussions that this class generates. The study method is simply coming on Tuesday mornings, reading through a particular passage, and together diving into the text. Kenny’s not far down the hall when extra insight is needed. Betty says one of the highlights is the special fellowship time (including prayer) they have one with the other. What happens on Tuesday mornings is truly Titus 2 in

action. Call Betty or the church office if interested. (day-care provided)

Wednesday – 6:30 P.M.

Pot-Luck Dinner (Supper), Brief Study, Prayer

Maybe the Main Meeting of the Week!!! Informality Reigns!!! Not chaos, but informality (the exception would be when the toddlers go on stage to play the drums or view the Baptistry). What a Great time “In

the Lord” as the “Body” feeds (pun intended) one another. It is a super time for our college crowd to get

a free supper. Wednesday nights can be compared to climbing three sets of stairs – the higher you go, the better it gets, and the better the view. Level One is that we chow down! (Forgive me, Lord, but YOU

know what the food is like around here.) At Level Two we focus on what God has to say about various issues. We open our Bibles as someone leads us in a study of God’s Word. At Level Three we take everything we can think of before God. What a privilege it is to speak directly to our LORD on behalf of others (and for ourselves). To hear the brokenness and passion that comes from many who pray reminds

us that PRAYER is serious business, never to be regarded as an appendix to a church gathering. You

would think that these people actually think they are talking to God. Don’t miss the main meeting – 6:30 Wednesdays!!

Small Groups

The “Small Group” concept flows from the Book of Acts where we see the Church meeting both at the Temple and from house to house. It’s very difficult to get to know lots of people, but not so difficult to

know a few. A house group provides the opportunity to grow in your relationship with Christ in an informal environment. Each member learns to “Become Real” since he or she is safe in the midst of “Real People.”

A small group setting helps remove the facade that all of us wear at times. In you are interested in being

part of “Small Group” ministry give Jeannie a call at 324-1000. Someone will get in touch with you and

steer you in the right direction.

House of Wayne and Mary Cole – Monday Nights

This small group has been in existence for approximately three years, and has about five or six couples that come regularly. After a delicious meal, the group’s study time is now being spent in the Book of Hebrews. Wayne prepares the teaching time and leads the others as they delve into one of the richest writings of the New Testament. This group is experiencing fellowship at its best – the members truly are part of one

another. Wayne invites others to come see what takes place in the small group setting, with hopes that

other small groups can be started. Give him a call or corner him on Sunday or Wednesday.

House of Mick and Melanie Hintz – Tuesday Nights

This is a new group (started in February, 2007) attempting to get up and running. At the present time Butch “Archie” Simmons is leading this group in Mick and Melanie’s home. There’s a time of sharing life (what’s going on) while munching on a few goodies, followed by a time in the Word to stir our thoughts concerning the Greatness of our God. Prayer is always a part of what happens, but on one evening the focus turned to Prayer alone. The group’s desire is to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. How? By equipping and being equipped, by edifying and being edified, and by evangelizing others. Get in touch with Mick, Melanie, or Butch if you are interested.

Summer Church League Softball – Tuesday & Thursday Nights

We are teaming-up this year with New Horizons to get a few of us guys back on the softball field. In years past Emmanuel has had some teams. You are supposed to be laughing by now. The reality is that

Emmanuel has fielded some teams that we talk about only when we need to guarantee ourselves a (an) hysterical (not historical – we would rather those teams never were) few minutes. Two quick ones on

Pastor Kenny. Remember the game in the rain when Kenny was pitching? He was not all gray (some black hair still) at that time. He would try to wipe the water off his face and head and in doing so his hair stood straight up!  He Sooo favored a skunk that evening. The absolute BEST (worse) happened with Pastor Kenny in right field. In attempting to catch a rather high fly coming his way, he misjudged (can’t imagine

him doing this on purpose) the ball. The softball (in truth softballs are hard, not soft) met Pastor Kenny’s head exactly where his hairline met his forehead. No exaggeration – the softball went straight up into the

air at least fifteen feet. All in attendance were horrified until it was determined that the holy man was ok.

Do your best to think of  the funniest thing you have ever seen – now imagine Pastor Kenny as he head-

butts a softball. Even funnier  is that he almost caught the ball after it bounced off his head... now that

would have been a double play!  The rest of the reality is that Emmanuel has fielded some really good

eams, even Championship Teams.

You never know what you might see at a softball game. Whether on the field or in the stands, it’s FELLOWSHIP AT ITS FUNNIEST!!!!
